Have you heard of The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts? This is a fabulous book that can really change your perspective, and more importantly, your actions. I recommend reading this book along with your husband, a great way to get a conversation started.
Author Gary Chapman gives a little preview:
Gary Chapman has also written several other titles which you may find interesting:
The Five Love Languages Singles EditionThe 5 Love Languages Men's Edition: The Secret to Love That Lasts
Covenant Marriage: Building Communication & Intimacy
We read this as part of our pre-marriage work with our chaplain. Wonderful book, and it really helped us learn to understand eachother more.
ReplyDeleteHubbie doesn't read but I thoroughly enjoyed this book and what the hunkie-hubbie-who-doesnt-read and I were able to get out of it was priceless.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that there was a new book out by him. We read the 5 love languages with a few of our couple friends several years ago. I must get this one
ReplyDeleteDana,
ReplyDeleteThis may be the same book you read, just a newer addition. I believe this addition has a great little questionnaire in the back of the book. I've added a few of Gary Chapman's other titles to this post in case you are interested. I've not read the other titles, however.
xoxo,
Gwen
Any hints to having a husband read this book? He reads a bunch of war books but I don't know how to convince him to start up this one? I absolutely love this book and it's changed how I treat not just him, but relationships with my family as well. I feel like I invest time to learn how to improve our relationship and want to feel like he is doing the same.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, the Hubs and I read this book during the first year of our marriage along with several other good ones (Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI actually give this book as a wedding gift with a note inside explaining to the couple that reading this book in the first year will help them avoid many pitfalls and small mistakes that could grow over time.
If I get the chance, I warn the bride that she probably only has that first year to read all the relationship books with her Husband they can because once the 'honeymoon' phase is over, it seems the guys will never read something like this again! Anyway, it makes a GREAT wedding gift!
Sounds like a good book....everyones' reading it:)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this book! It's so helpful!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Haven't heard of this book but it sounds like something I'd definitely be interested in looking at.
ReplyDeleteI have read this book. Fantastic. It really helps in understanding all your relationships!
ReplyDeleteI loved this book. i read it after a year of marriage, and really got so much out of it. My husband isn't much of a reader, but he told me he'd read it, too. The quiz was my favorite part. So interesting to see the love language of a spouse.
ReplyDeleteLast time I read it I couldnt work out which love language was mine, and my husbands. Ill have to read it again, and maybe have better luck. Oh, and by the way, Gwen... I LOVE your blog. Its so nice to be able to read a blog about hot, MARRIED sex. Thankyou.
ReplyDeleteEmily.
Great book and a must read for every married couple. It teaches you how to love in a love language that is received and that fills the love tank.
