DIY Makeup Remover

Coconut Oil!
Yes, this stuff!
I've found this works really great for removing even waterproof mascara. Be careful not to get it in your eyes. Supposedly, it helps your lashes grow longer and thicker as well.

DIY Shave Gel

Use conditioner when you shave instead of shave gel .

If you have really sensitive skin like me, this will leave you with a silky smooth shave and little or no razor burn. This also works really well for the hair down there and will leave less bumps and burn, too, because of the added moisturizer in conditioner.

I love it because I can buy the cheap 70 cent conditioner and it lasts a while and I'm finding it's way more effective and much better on my skin than the $4 shave gel, anyway.

Swimsuit season is here so give it a try and let me know what you think!

What to Expect for Laser Hair Removal

Setting up a laser hair removal can be a bit nerve racking if you don't know what to expect. Luckily, it can be done without much pain and happens fairly fast!

Make sure you research laser removal centers in your area. Google can be your best friend.

Do some research on the types of lasers and what is best for your skin type and hair color. In general, lasers work best on people with dark hair and light skin. I've heard that a lot don't work well on blonde or red hair, but there a few that do (and more coming out that will work).

Make sure you don't have any medical risks that could lead to bad after effects. Do a consultation with the spa or office you have chosen.

Ask what kind of pain reliever is used. Some places use ice, some use numbing cream, some use a cooling device and some may use a different method.

You will need to shave the area being lasered before going in. Yes, shave. Don't pluck or wax. Lasering works by killing the hair follicle so you need to have part of it there beneath the skin.

You will be asked to undress and uncover whatever area will be worked on and lay on a table. If you are doing bikini line, you may be asked to wear some paper panties.

You will wear some protective glasses to shield your eyes from the laser.

Be prepared to move around as necessary. If you're getting the Brazilian done, they may have you roll over, prop your butt up on the air while spreading your butt cheeks to get everywhere. It's not pretty, but it means they can get all of the hair.

I would say it feels a bit like the pain you may get when shaving with a dull razor if you don't have the best anesthetic. It's not as bad as waxing. Each zap gets the skin in about a one inch radius.

Apply aloe vera afterward. The cooling effect is great.

You will look like a plucked chicken for a couple days. If you have big swelling and raised bumps after a couple days still, be a bit concerned.

After about 2 weeks, you should notice hair falling out and thinning.

Return for your follow up 4-8 weeks later or as suggested.

To Zap or Not to Zap? -- Laser Hair Removal

I'm curious, how many of you would use or have used laser hair removal?

I've been seeing a lot of Groupons and other daily deals for laser hair removal lately. I've been pretty old fashioned in how I remove hair and I'm still somewhat skeptical about the hair actually staying away with laser removal.

I've heard it feels a bit like being zapped by a rubber band, but they can get about a one-inch square with each zap. No pain, no gain-right?

What are your thoughts on the Brazilian? I kind of like the option of knowing I can grow hair if I want to. Plus, when my girls go through puberty I don't want them to think they're crazy weird aliens. Husband is more for well-groomed hair because he doesn't want to feel like I'm a prepubescent girl and he thinks if he's going to expect me to be bare then I should probably expect something of him, too.

These are the current results from our sidebar poll:
How do you care for the hair down there?

All natural. Easy and free.
  88 (20%)

Just bikini line.
  193 (45%)

I'm a Brazilian Goddess.
  116 (27%)

Hair where?! What? I'm so confused!
  31 (7%)

If you've had laser hair removal done, how have you liked the results?

Do you think the Brazilian is just a trend or will it last?

Swimsuit Season

{via}

Make sure you check out our past posts on grooming in preparation for swimsuit season.

Also, if you subscribe to coupons and have a Walmart nearby you may be able to score a Noxzema Bikini Razor for free by using a $2 coupon from 5/11 Red Plum insert. I've never used a Noxzema bikini razor, but I've read some good reviews and it's free so it's worth a shot!

Feel free to share any other tips, tricks or advice!!

Bikini Kit

With all of this talk of cleaning up for bikini season I decided to do some investigating and am so pleased with what I've found. A Bikini Care Kit from Gilette Venus!

Here is what's included:

  • 1 Venus Embrace® Refillable Razor
  • 1 Venus Bikini Trimmer
  • 1 Olay® Bikini Lotion (helps with razor burn)
Venus razors are amazing and have 5 blades and a ribbon of moisture. But what I'm most excited about is the Bikini Trimmer. There is a protective shield to ensure an even, safe trim. I'm a wax girl myself, but this seems perfect for in between salon visits. If you've never tried trimming down, this may be a great tool to ease you into the practice.

EDIT: My sincerest apologies! I had initially posted about an offer to receive this kit for free. After looking into it, it seemed a little bit too fishy. I guess if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Please forgive me for leading you astray :( But the kit still looks like a great product! Let me know if you give it a try.

Feelin' Sexy Friday -- The Hair Down There

How do you groom your hair down there? Are you a natural woman or do you prefer a clean and trim look? Maybe you prefer no hair? What makes you feel sexy? Is your grooming to avoid embarrassment (i.e. a furry swimsuit line), or intended to attract your man?

Many women think pubic hair is sexy, “Pubic hair is feminine and mysterious and quite beautiful.” (The Hite Report, pg. 367) Others are put off by it or prefer the sensation of bare skin. "My pubic hair is too long, so I cut it. I wash two times a day and douche every three days.” (The Hite Report pg. 369)

Have you ever wanted to groom the hair down there but have not known how?

Here are a few options:
  • Shave your pubic area with a razor. The most common form of hair removal, but it may cause skin irritation.
  • Wax. A bikini wax (just the edges) or a Brazilian wax (ALL of it). This can be done at a salon or with an at home wax pot.
  • A Chemical depilatory such as Magic Platinum Shaving Powder
(a mixture you spread over the hair that dissolves it away from the skin.)
Talk it over with your husband. Does he have a preference? Be brave, give it a try. You'll feel fresh, clean, and sexy!
